Satyam Saga and High Expectation Indian Society

The news is everywhere and sure I don’t have to explain what’s happening at Satyam, India’s fourth largest IT Company. Sure as everyone agree I too agree that this is a big scam, and shameful for the Indian IT and corporate set-up, yes all we have to worry about the future of Indian IT companies and foreign investment coming to our country. But for me it looks like a different opportunity if we, the educated Indian community want real growth has to happen we have to re-look at the values or the way we constructed the so called Indian cultured society. Including me all we trust we are educated, well mannered and highly sensitive to human, but when come to reality do any care of these things, just think the way you drive in any metro in India, the worst drivers are IT company hired cab and bus drivers and the next is the so called elite IT people, yes all these educated bunch has a reason for not following the traffic rules and creating havoc on the roads, they are stressed, their time mean money, and they are always busy… and yes we don’t care the traffic police men standing on the road to control the traffic putting his life in risk, we just worry about our clients, meetings and our growth, so rest all are immaterial to us. What all this mean, we are in a run to be successful, and the meaning of success in our society got redefined in past 20 odd years, it is now measured by the car you drive, villa where you live and the school your child go, is this the real success and measure of happiness of Indian community then sure count my words we will never become a developed country like central Europe and US of A.
Just do a personal evaluation of you and the people around you is this inflated pride is sign of India shining!!! If we travel abroad we obey all the traffic rules and we treat even the nearby pizza restaurant waiter with smile and lot of respect, I am not saying it’s all just because the white skin they have, we tend to go by the rule of that country, and sure you might have experienced you are respected when you gave the respect to those fellow humans. But the moment we are back in India we don’t care the rules and we shout at the bearer for delay of one minute, how this happen. So the problem is in our society as I stated above everything count on the status you show off in public. We are getting into a dilemma where we don’t know what culture to follow. The education infrastructure in all developed countries are run by the government and majority will send their children to those schools, but think what is happening in India, how many dare to send the children to a government school in India, and yes we always go by a thumb rule, the more the fee, the school is best, I feel that’s a status issue when you meet up with other friends it looks like proud to say that I send my daughter/son to so and so school which charge a lakh per year as tuition fee.
Accept the reality we are becoming a show off society, where success is mandated and society look for you to succeed in life whatever way you can. Yes we don’t care our children fudge in an entrance or final exam if she/he gets into IIT or IIM.
Coming back to where I started, so what this has to do with Satyam, sure all the above the society the share holders the politicians and the country made an expectation that every IT company has to grow 30 to 40 % year on year, the so called industry standard, and Satyam did show that for past ten years with all inflated profit and head count. So whom to blame, is the management alone is responsible for this, yes from the view of corporate governance it’s the management to be blamed, but when we look at the society we all are responsible for this kind of a scam, we taught our children to succeed in life and kept the bars high, and never taught them ethics.
Satyam is start of the story and we need to change now, we have to create a responsible Indian brand name, which don’t fudge on exams, parents or society don’t count success of life visa a visa with the car you drive. Let’s pledge to make that society, for that we need to teach our children, not in those schools who charge the high fee, but at home, teach them to be truthful, respectful, and responsible to the society. As mahatma told be the change what you want to see, then no more ASATYAM (Lie) will happen in this society and coming years India will move be a developed county.
